Removing an Amazon review means reporting a product review or seller feedback to Amazon for violating its Community Guidelines. Sellers cannot delete reviews directly. Amazon removes reviews for fake engagement, irrelevant content, offensive language, and policy violations, but protects negative reviews based on genuine purchase experiences. Brand-registered sellers have access to additional reporting tools through Seller Central.
Amazon reviews follow different rules than Google or Yelp. The platform distinguishes between product reviews and seller feedback, offers stronger tools to Brand Registry members, and has its own definition of what counts as a violation. This guide covers how to remove reviews on Amazon for both product listings and seller profiles.
Product reviews vs seller feedback
Amazon has two separate review systems. Mixing them up leads to wasted reports.
| Feature | Product reviews | Seller feedback |
|---|---|---|
| What it rates | The product (quality, features, value) | The selling experience (shipping, packaging, service) |
| Where it appears | Product detail page | Seller profile page |
| Who can leave one | Anyone (verified and unverified purchase) | Buyers of that seller's products |
| Impact | Affects product ranking and Buy Box | Affects seller metrics and account health |
| Removal process | "Report abuse" on product page or Seller Central | Seller Central > Performance > Feedback Manager |
What Amazon will and won't remove
| Amazon WILL remove | Amazon WON'T remove |
|---|---|
| Reviews with no verified purchase (sometimes) | Negative reviews from verified buyers |
| Fake reviews from competitors or review farms | Reviews about product defects or quality issues |
| Irrelevant content (about shipping in a product review) | Unfavorable comparisons to competing products |
| Offensive or abusive language | Low star ratings without detailed text |
| Promotional content or links to other products | Honest opinions you disagree with |
| Reviews about the wrong product | Reviews about packaging or presentation |
Important: Amazon occasionally strikes seller feedback that's actually about the product (not the seller). If a buyer leaves seller feedback saying "product was defective," you can request removal because it's product feedback in the wrong place.
How to report a product review
Method 1: "Report abuse" button (anyone)
- Go to the product detail page.
- Find the review in the customer reviews section.
- Click "Report abuse" below the review.
- Select the reason and submit.
This submits to Amazon's automated system. For clear violations (profanity, spam links), it works. For borderline cases, you'll need Seller Central.
Method 2: Seller Central (sellers)
- Log in to Seller Central.
- Go to Performance → Customer Reviews.
- Find the review and click "Report".
- Select the violation type and add a brief explanation.
Method 3: Brand Registry tools (brand owners)
- In Seller Central, go to Brand → Customer Reviews.
- Use the "Report a violation" tool.
- Select from granular violation categories.
- Submit with evidence.
Brand Registry reports go to a dedicated review team and have higher success rates than the standard report button.
How to remove seller feedback
- In Seller Central, go to Performance → Feedback Manager.
- Find the feedback entry.
- Click "Request removal" if the option is available.
- If not, open a case under Get Support → "Product reviews" explaining why the feedback should be removed (e.g., it's a product review, not seller feedback).
Amazon is more willing to remove seller feedback that's actually about the product than it is to remove genuine product reviews.
Delete your own Amazon review
- Go to amazon.com and sign in.
- Click "Account & Lists" → "Your Amazon Profile."
- Find the review under your contributions.
- Click the three-dot menu and select "Delete."
You can also edit your review to update the rating and text without deleting it entirely.
